PHUN simulation: Rocker-Bogie Design for CE Bot

Presently, I am working on a project by Crazyengineers.com. CE Bot (visit the link for more information and see Appendix for more links). While discussing the appropriate suspension/chassis design, we thought about implementing a Rocker-Bogie system inspired by the Mars Rover designs.

So to get an idea on how the Rocker-Bogie design would work, I tried several simulations on PHUN, a 2-D simulation sandbox. Interesting program to go a lot of other things, its free.

Note that the simulations are only for one side. The other side is connected by a differential rod with elliptical gearing on each side. This has to be further studied to be used properly. However, here is a small flash demo showing how each side will turn based on the other’s motion [[LINK]]:

Buttons top to bottom are (if you cannot read the text): Kuper, Planetary, Sun. We will be using Planetary in our design to connect the two sides.

Here is the video containing the 3 simulations with explaination:

Some practice videos on windooz Movie Maker.

Here are two videos I made using windows movie mekah. Its not bad for basic picture to video presentation and amature video editing. The best features are easy text/titles/credits and splitting an imported video. The worst thing about this is the video can only be exported in .WMV format!!!

Update [09/12/08 - 8:00pm]: I am testing a new flash video player. However, WP already has a way to directly import/embed youtube video’s. The new flashplayer can only play flv, and related videos.

Update [09/12/08 - 8:00pm]: Tested internal Flash video player. Garbage! Does not work…or is too slow. The best options are using default Youtube and FLV links. And 1 Pixel Audio Player.

PC Parallel Port Interfacing Techniques – Part 2

16 October 2006 v1.0

Elec: 3.5 Comp: 2 Mech: 0

Introduction

In this tutorial we will flash a LED (Light Emitting Diode) connected to your printer port socket. Reading the first part is recommended to get a general idea what you are upto.

Connections

To connect a LED to your port first you have to know what it looks like. Here are the two most common connectors that you can have.

PC Parallel Port Interfacing Techniques – Part 1

6 October 2006 v1.0

Article: 2 Elec: 3.5 Comp: 3 Mech: 0

Introduction

In this tutorial I will just introduce the PC Parallel Port and how to identify its address for use in home electronic projects. Mind you the whole process and learning takes time but is fairly easy too! Remember, if you are interested then keep learning and trying new things. Fill me in if you have any questions or suggestions.

The Parallel Port is the most commonly used port for interfacing usual devices like printers and scanners. It’s found commonly on the back of your PC as a D-Type 25 Pin female connector. But did you know it can even be used to make home made projects?

FM Tapped Telephone!

In short: “Listen in to the telephone conversation on your radio!”

But before that here is a disclaimer:

All information provided in this post is for educational perposes only. I do not support nor encourage this monkey business. If you choose to make this device; you, and only you will be responsible for the consequences. Happy building!

Lets move on.

I had taken my old Landmine Landline (wired) phone and thought of making it a cool spy device. You know like in the Bond movies, only difference being this one is a little bigger. Click on a image to enlarge it.

Phone I dont have to explain this one. Read more »

RBG and Infra-Red Camera

I had an old Genious G Shot D211 lying arround, and it was pretty much useless because of many small reasons, which Im too lazy to state.

After reading a lot of tutorials on making IR cameras, I thought ill do one myself. Making one is not exactly ‘making’ it, rather modifying or hacking an existing camera. It can be done to any model, but remember every model has a different type of IR filter in it. Some can be removed easily, some have to be broken like mine. Some are transparent paint like a nailpolish or a solid glass with IR on one side and UV on the other, like mine.

Some usefull links have been provided at your disposal to check other mods/hacks etc.

If I get a good response, ill be uploading more pictures for you to check out.

Outside with no IR or UV filter. This picture was taken outside with no filter at all. That means UV, IR and Visible spectrum, all get into the camera. This kinda makes the picture look weird. So remember if you have removed your IR filter permamanently then you’re probabily stuck with an IR camera. ONLY

Photo with IR filter. The picture with a fully exposed piece of negetive. This blocks Visible light. There is not much of UV that a cmos camera can detect (more on this later). So, its just IR with whites meaning IR, blacks meaning no-IR.
